Junkyard Versus 2nd Hand Toys

Wandering around the East coast of Iceland, I discovered a distinct world hidden in a local junkyard. A world of discarded items that were once indispensable, a sort of retirement home for cars, boats, and dismantled engines. A spot of decay and rust, resembling our own trajectory as transient beings, leaving behind the legacy of refuse.

My aim in this project is not a documentary one, but rather an attempt to interfere, interrupt and ‘’resuscitate’’, by finding ways to fuse the desolate landscape with a touch of humour, play and absurdity, inserting into it other abandoned victims – 2nd hand toys.

This project  was developed and exhibited during the Skaftfell artistic residency in Seydisfjordur – 2019.
